South Park Neighborhood in Metro San Diego

South Park Community Information

South Park is an historic neighborhood in San Diego, California. Balboa Park lies to the west, Golden Hill to the south and North Park to the north. Within walking distance are numerous restaurants, breweries, coffee shops, cafes, and boutiques.  It is just a few minutes drive to the Historic Birch Theatre, which is great venue for musicals, or Morley Field to enjoy the summer Bird Park concerts.

History

The extension of streetcar service to the area in 1905 spurred development. Public transit was further refined prior to the arrival of the 1915 Panama-California Exposition. Streetcar service to South Park continued until 1939.

Parks and Recreation

South Park residents enjoy the innumerable opportunities offered at Balboa Park. Exhibitions at the San Diego Museum of Art richly complement the pleasures of a day at the San Diego Zoo. Adjacent to the world-class zoo is the 1910 Balboa Park carousel. Fifteen museums and a performing arts center also operate within the confines of the park.

Attractions and Activities

Avid golfers with South Park homes will enjoy that fact that they live only moments away from one of the most historic municipal courses in southern California.  Balboa Park Golf Course includes 18 championship holes as well as a nine-hole executive layout. There's a complete pro shop, driving range and multiple practice putting greens. The par-72, 18-hole course measures 6,281 yards from the longest tees. The par-32 executive nine is 2,175 yards long.
